VIVA VIDA! Greetings

  Established in 1998, VIVA VIDA! started its services as a medical and life insurance service association. With the amendment of the Japanese Insurance Business Law, VIVA VIDA MEDICAL LIFE CO., LTD. registered with the Japanese Financial Services Agency in March 2009 as a small amount and short-term insurer for medical and life insurances—with hopes of becoming a safety net for non-Japanese residing in Japan. Japan offers numerous public healthcare plans through its National Health Insurance, Social Insurance and other systems, but the reality is, not many non-Japanese are enrolled in these plans. The decline in the national enrollment rate has become a major social problem in Japan. However, the core reasons for non-Japanese not enrolling in these insurance services are different from that of the Japanese. It is highly possible that the reasons lie in a lack of proper understanding and knowledge of the Japanese healthcare insurance system and diverse cultural and lifestyle differences. Additionally, numerous non-native residents of Japan have noted that these Japanese insurance systems created for Japanese are difficult to join since Japanese insurance policies are often combined with pension plans and nursing insurance policies they will not be able to receive as they will not be staying permanently, and moreover, are too expensive for people who are temporarily residing in Japan. Within these given circumstances, we feel it is our responsibility to provide security for both the nation and non-native residents by providing adequate medical and life insurance options at a reasonable price for residing visitors without public insurance plans during their stay. Through our company we also hope to be able to contribute to a mutual and international understanding by providing information regarding insurance, healthcare and on Japan in general. For non-native residents of Japan, we ask for your understanding and awareness that medical expenses can be very costly in this country, that certain economic resources are needed to continue living in Japan, and that the utilization and support of an insurance policy is a reasonable safeguard. We hope you will consider our insurance policy as a measure of precaution for a secure and comfortable stay here in Japan.
